I present to you, your lead mare...
The colorless stag was still in the cave with his new mate and love, Bones. He laughed softly as she began talking to him, clearly overjoyed that they had just made a foal. He loved every moment of it, taking in each giggle and smile that crossed her face. She just couldn't stop mentioning it, kissing him and playing with his mane. Though clearly, Slade loved all the attention and happiness. Large smile pulled his lips apart as he nudged her shoulder softly before kissing her cheak and speaking. "I am so happy as well! Our very own family!" His voice obviously excited too as he then swished his tail and turned around now facing the exit and turning his head back to call to her. "Well, my gorgeous lady. Shall we go announce to the herd that they now have a lead mare?" Lips curving back into a smile as he looked into her blue eyes for a moment before looking forward and stepping out from behind the falls.
As much as he loved every moment he spent alone with Bones, he knew he had a herd to care for too. It had been over a week that he had spent alone with Bones, only doing his nightly checks on everyone and he felt like that was far to absent of a leader for him to be. So now that they had become mates and bred, he felt like it was time to get Bones into the swing of being a lead mare. The responsibilities that came with it, but also the luxury. Now that she was carrying his foal, she became his entire world. The lead now was crossing the creek, looking back every so many steps to make sure his love was still following behind. Everytime he looked at her he would get butterflies in his stomach, still unable to believe that she had said yes, and was already pregnant. The overjoyed lead now just couldn't wait to tell the rest of the herd. However, there was concern in him too, concern that Hael might take this news horribly. After foaling a beautiful colt not long ago, Slade was eager to see her again. But not just see her, check up on her and Mouses' progress. Of course, Bones and his future foal were his family now, but his herd was still his duty as well. Bones would have to understand that he needed to also pay attention to them as well, but he wasn't worried about it as she never had a problem before with his leader duties.
Content smile plastered across his face as he reached the top of his favorite hill, overlooking the herd, Bones right behind him. Suddenly, the stallion reared up atop the hill and let a happy whinny escape his maw. While midair he flipped his head, mane crashing against his neck in a mass of flowing white hairs. Slade looked so powerful, then and there. As he dropped to the ground he let out one more whinny, this one signaling the rest of the herd to listen up, he had an announcement to make. Eyes glancing over the lands below as he could see heads began to pick up from eating grass, or talking to one another. Confident he had the attention of his herd, he began to speak. Loud enough for them to hear, but too feint for others along the outskirts of the herd to catch much of anything. Finally, the lead voice sounded. "Hello everyone! It has been far too long since I have gotten around and spoken with you all. Very shortly, I will be doing that. At night when I make my rounds I make sure you are all still safe, but I feel distant in the aspect of socialization and being your friend and leader. Though there is no excuse for my absent behavior, there is a reason." Pausing, Slade looked behind him and tipped his nose in an inviting manner to allow Bones to come stand beside him before he continued. Once she was, he began again. "Everyone, I would love for you to meet our lead mare!" His voice clearly happy and excited as he finished. "Bones and I have become mates and I wanted to make the announcement to you all at the same time so there was no he said, she said drama started. You know every single one of you mean a great deal to Bones and I. We would like to show that more to all of you as well. Winter is well on its way, so until the grass becomes snow covered, lets feast!" As he finished he reared in pure excitement once more before looking to Bones and tipping his nose once more before giving her a warm kiss upon the cheek and a quick whisper before taking off at a full gallop, excited, headed towards Hael and little Mouse. "Come with me beautiful, lets go talk to our herd." were the words he spoke to Bones before he had took off. White mane whipping in the wind, white tail flapping behind as he let his legs just fly effortlessly. Slades badgerface marking completely exposed as his forelock was blown behind his ears in the wind he created. However, Hael and Mouse came up quicker then he expected as he then dropped his hind end into the ground and walked out on his front, sliding into his stop, tassles then flying in every direction. With a small snort he shook himself for a quick moment before letting his eyes catch the bodice of Hael, followed by her eyes. Waiting a moment for Bones to also get her bearings back before he spoke. Switching his glance he looked to his mate for a moment before addressing Hael. "Oh my how hes grown! On my rounds I've checked on everyone from afar, but Mouse always seems to look the same size when hes sleeping. Up close, he has grown a bit!" Slade knowing of course that yes, Mouse had grown, but was still pretty far behind what a foal his age should be. Nethertheless, he was still very cute and adoreable, even if he was Tilneys offspring. Which made him think for a moment before opening his mouth again, questioning that very stallions whereabouts. "So, you and Tilney, has he come around yet? I haven't smelled him in quite a while and honestly don't even know if he opted to stay or leave after Mouse was born. If he is gone, well shame on him, he missed out on you and his amazing son." Giving a quick glance to Mouse while a smile tugged at his lips. Slade not being able to help but think that Bones and he would soon have a foal of their own. Mind switching between thoughts rapidly for a moment before his gaze then switched back to Bones until finally rested on Hael again as he addressed her once more. "I hope you have been well Hael. Sorry it has been so long since we all have talked, I have missed it. You have become a wonderful mother, one your own family would be very proud of." Slade finished with a small smile as he looked to Bones, knowing the maybe Hael could give Bones some tips on foaling and raising a foal. However, Slade didn't want to say anything to anyone about Bones being pregnant until Bones was ready too. That was a decision that he would let her make. When she was ready to let everyone know, Slade didn't care how she did it. He was just happy to finally have created a family of his own. Now his life was entirely complete. He has a great herd, amazing friends within it, a beautilful mate and a little one on the way. Now that he had finished all he seemed to have thought about saying, he waited for Bones to add in whatever she pleased as well. (ooc. Im going to just have Caru enter on this post, and then I'll make his own post next reply. ;] ) But not ten minutes later, after Hael had a chance to reply, Slade heard a familiar whinny echo through the lands. One he hadn't heard in ages. A long lost pal whom he'd be happy to introduce. Tipping his head to the skys, he called back and then looked to the mares assuring them that the intruder was ok. Moments later, the stag came into view and Slade spoke aloud. "Wow, it has been some time since I have heard that quiet whinny! Ladies, meet my long lost pal, Caruso." The perlino paint stallion then walked up beside Slade, opposite of the side Bones was on and dropped to a knee, dipping his head in respect before standing and letting his shy, quiet voice speak. "Hello to both of you. Slade is lucky to have such beautiful mares in his herd." His maw gripping a nice smile as he then looked to Slade quick and addressed him for a moment. "I do assume it is your herd old pal? I heard the end of your speech at least. You have always been much better at talking then I." His voice trailing off quietly as he finished, Caruso then looking at both mares for a few moments. From what he could assume, the mare on Slades side was his, but the gorgeous pale white mare seemed to be the mother of the super adoreable colt beside her. Not one to ever jump into anything, but deep down, Caruso hoped he would get some time to speak to the mare and her colt, as she was very beautiful in his eyes. Suddenly, Slade voice broke the silence as he replied back to Caru. "Yes, Caru, the herd is mine. As well as this lovely lady beside me, Bones. Ahead of you is Hael and her colt Mouse, they are very important to me as well." Speaking the truth. Besides his world belonging to Bones and his family now, Hael and her colt were one of the more important members to him. Hael was there from the start and ever since they had met, Hael had a trauma filled life. Finally, it had seemed to calm down. Though in the moment, Slades eyes began to drift back to Bones, his gorgeous, beautiful and amazing Bones, his mate. Something just couldn't stop him from thinking about her.. Shifting his weight, he also let his mind shift. Caruso was back, how the heck did he get in, and how did he even find his way here? All were questions that Slade knew would be answered soon enough. For now, he wanted to enjoy the moments with his greatest friends and family.

Take me to the stars. ------------------- Don't ever let me go. -------------------
It had been awhile since Hael had talked to anyone. Dealing with a newborn colt had it's challenges, and she often found herself chasing after her colt as he wandered about, not afraid to explore as far as his mother would let him. There was definitely something odd about him. Mouse was a perfect name for him. Born small, Hael knew right away he'd have trouble with certain things; standing, walking, eating, and pulling his own weight as a horse and new member of the herd. He rarely talked, to anyone as a matter of fact, he was
| quiet as a mouse |
Though Hael knew that the stress probably got to her during her pregnancy, and that's what probably caused Mouse's specific attributes, she loved him more than she's ever loved anyone, or anything. Something about just looking at his scrawny body brought joy in her life and a twinkle in her eye. When she is with him, she often forgets about the drama that took place with her, Slade, Bones, and Tilney, and becomes fascinated by the way Mouse moves about, explores, thinks, and his actions. Hael wasn't sure if she would love her foal to be honest, seeing as the breeding was slightly forced and she had no relationship with Tilney. In fact, the last time she saw Tilney was well before the birth of Mouse. Though she felt alone before, she doesn't now. Mouse brought out the love again in herself, and she has finally realized that she doesn't need a mate to be truly happy.
It had been hard, being in a herd with Slade and having to fake the emotions, to tell herself that she didn't love him and she didn't want him, when she really did. Before, she thought Tilney and the pregnancy was the worst thing that had happened to her, because it kept her away from Slade, but now seeing her little bundle of joy that she has carried around and given birth to walk and talk and eat, she's overjoyed, and believes Mouse was the best thing that has happened to her. Seeing Slade and Bones together has bugged her immensely, but she believes now that Mouse is the only one that matters. Though she is still hurt from everything that had happened, she really only wants the best for Slade, and she appreciated Bones trying to befriend her and helping her with Mouse.
| It's bittersweet |
Grazing peacefully while poking her nose at Mouse for fun, her ears picked up Slade's voice atop the hill. Lifting her head up and glancing at Mouse, nipping at him to pay attention, she wondered what this was about. She hadn't really talked to Slade much, or anyone else as a matter of fact, but she hoped she could renew her part in the herd again.
'""Everyone, I would love for you to meet our lead mare!"'
Hael's blue eyes watered at the words. She went blank for a moment, trying to process the time that has passed. To Hael, she just gave birth to Mouse yesterday. It would only seem right that Slade would have a mate already, right? She was happy for Slade, she really was, but she couldn't help but feel the jealousy spring up as she looked at him with Bones next to him, all happy and smiling and whatnot.
'That could have been me.'
Thoughts crept into her mind as she stared intently at the both of them, only to be snapped back to reality to Mouse's handsome face.
'"About time."'
Hael took in a faint voice and glanced at Friar. Knowing it was probably him who spoke, she wondered what he thought about the whole situation, and if it would compare to her thoughts. (I'm keeping this in, because I read Fig's post before I finished this one lolol)
'No. I think I am right where I should be. No matter what happened. He is my world now.'
She glances at Mouse again, who was staring at Slade but daydreaming instead of listening. Hael smiled, nipping at Mouse again only to get a frustrated grin back at her. After Slade's speech was done, she watched as he made his down to her and Mouse, trying to sport a grin as he noticed that he's grown.
"Yes, he has grown some, but not enough."
She speaks softly as she eyes Mouse up and down, who is pulling the grass up from the earth aimlessly, not paying any attention to his surroundings.
"I worry about his future. How can a colt so small grow up and become a big leader? I'm sure he'd want to be by his self when he leaves, which he probably will. He's so adventurous, but independent already. It's crazy.."
It was the honest truth. Hael spoke with a worried expression on her face, staring at her offspring. For how old he was already, he was indeed still small, and she couldn't help trying to figure out how that was. She eyed his misshapen ear, wondering if he would make it through a lifetime without being called a freak.
'"So, you and Tilney, has he come around yet?"'
Hael cringed at the name. She didn't know how to feel, knowing that Mouse wouldn't have a present father in his life. Back then, she would have wanted to work things out. Having Tilney around would have brought up memories of which she didn't want to think about, but it would help Mouse overall. She thought while Slade spoke, about her life if Tilney was still here, wondering what it would be like.
"No, I have not seen Tilney, and I don't know if I will ever again. Just like you Slade, his loss. He won't get to see Mouse grow up."
She spoke to Slade as she glanced between him and Mouse.
"I know we haven't spoke in awhile, and I apologize for that too. Looking after Mouse is hard work, especially since he wanders all the time, but I'm figuring out how to be a mother."
Just as she finished her sentence, she screamed for Mouse, who was slowly disappearing into the trees, distracted by a squirrel running up the trees. His head popped up from the branches and he ran back over, hind legs flying in the air as he stumbled back and started grazing again.
"He still doesn't speak much, but that's okay."
She smiled at Mouse, who smirked back up to her and walked over to her side to start nursing. She glanced at Slade again, trying to avoid the subject of Bones and the whole mate thing, because she truly still didn't know what to think. She listened to him finish with a compliment, which she took in whole-heartedly. She was very proud of being a mother, and turned her head back to smile at Mouse, who had a mouth full of milk.
"Thanks, Slade."
She spoke as she nodded to Bones in a sort of congratulatory way. As she turned back to Slade, an unfamiliar whinny reached her ears and she immediately nipped at Mouse to stay close to her. She glanced at Slade, who called to the herd that it was okay. Never smelling the scent before, she wondered who it was. It was definitely a stallion, and she couldn't help but get confused that Slade would be okay with another stallion coming on to his land. She watched as a stranger walked up to Slade, and listened as they spoke and he introduced him to the herd.
'""Hello to both of you. Slade is lucky to have such beautiful mares in his herd."'
Hael rolled her eyes and sneered. She took his compliment as cheesy, even though deep down she thought the stranger was handsome. She stared him up and down, trying so nonchalantly to be respectful and professional, being a mother especially, but couldn't help fan-girling his looks and demeanor. Distracted, she snapped back to reality as Slade spoke, smiling faintly as he spoke of hers and Mouse's importance to him and the herd.
"But yet here I am, just an old broodmare.."
She thought to herself, but rolled her eyes at her own thought. She turned her head back to Mouse, who was by her flank, and nickered at him to reveal and introduce himself.
Mouse cautiously made his way up to the stud named Caruso and lowered his head, but stepped back to her flank again to hide.
"Sorry, he doesn't talk much. And he doesn't really like strangers either..."
She spoke softly as she eyed her little one again.
"It's nice to meet you Caruso."

Friar
Swinging his massive head upward at the sound of Slade's beckoning call, Friar's eyes darted upward equally as fast to see his lead stallion standing up atop the overlooking hill. Unsure he'd ever heard such a raw, happy sound from the stallion, he was more than inclined to redirect his attention. Friar picks himself up from the delicate meadow grass, finding balance as he gracelessly manages to lift his massive build onto four legs. He makes his way closer to the base of the hill, sidling up at attention beside Hael and Mouse, in order to hear more clearly.
As surprised as the shire feels he should be by the news, he can't help but feel like this was a long way coming. Even so, the stag smiles knowingly up at the new pairing, who just radiate joy. "About time," he comments, mostly to himself, a fond eyeroll to match as he watches, content, while the rest of the heard reacts to the news.
With Bones as a lead mare to Slade, Friar thinks perhaps it will build up the herd even more so. And with the rumors of a new pure herd circling, it doesn't hurt to keep building. The draft horse lets his tail sway haphazardly behind him, a carefree gesture that reflects perfectly the tone of his stay here in Slade's, and now Bones', herd lands. Remembering his past travels, they feel as if they're decades ago, the fire that set him on his way, even longer. He can't dwell though, not as he looks at the happiness of the new lead pair.
An unfamiliar whinny stirs him out of his state of reverie, sets him on edge for just the slightest moment before he looks to Slade and sees nostalgia written clear over his face. Friar wanders closer to the small gathering, curious as to see who might be so inclined to seek the herd out. Caruso, the stallion's name was, and he seemed as kind as he was casual. The shire decided to let things be, at least for now. He was well acquainted with milling about in the background until necessary, this was no exception.

If this is to end in flames, then we will all burn together... Tags;; Slade, Bones, Caru, Friar words;; 873 notes;; Bones is being friendly. Bones was happy to see that Slade shared the excitement with her, though she never doubted that he would. He, after all, had always said that he wanted a foal and when they first met Bones didn’t even want to love anyone. Things had clearly changed over a time that seemed like just days, but she was happy with everything that had happened and everything that was bound to come in the future. For a brief second her mind flitted back to when Slade had said he had a different mate who could never conceive, and she worried that they wouldn’t have a foal at all. But she pushed such negative thoughts out of her brain, she couldn’t be thinking like that before she even knew anything. Her listening devices pricked up when she heard what he said, but she didn’t answer right away. She wasn’t sure how she felt about telling them all, not because she was embarrassed or scared, but because of Hael. She was trying to be friends with the mare, and she knew that that this would not help this relationship at all. She didn’t blame her, Bones came in when Hael and Slade were in a bad situation and they had feelings for each other, but it wasn’t something she could help. And she couldn’t stop her feelings for him. She was happy, and she only hoped that Hael could see past that and they could be friends. Or at least friendly towards her. Hael was the only mother in the herd, Bones didn’t have her own mother around, and she hadn’t seen Blackbird in ages. Without answering she followed off after him, because Slade was clearly overjoyed to share the news with everyone. As he looked back at her, making sure she was following, she would smile softly. She didn’t want to leave their little private cave, but at the same time she knew he had a herd to take care of. And now she also had a herd to take care of, which was a foreign thought because what seemed like no long ago she didn’t even want in a herd. And now she was in charge of other equines, and that scared her a little bit. But she could do it, and it wasn’t like Slade would abandon her. He would always be by her side, for that she was certain. The brindle mare stayed back as Slade spoke out towards his herd, his voice carrying throughout his lands, and a content little smile was on her face. He was such a wonderful leader, and she couldn’t wait for their herd to grow. Once he motioned her forward she came to stand proudly by his side as he made the announcement about them, the smile not faltering. They were mates, they were leads of this herd, and soon they would be a happy little family. Within seconds it seemed Slade was on the move though, and he went straight to Hael and Mouse. She knew she shouldn’t be upset about it, but Bones just felt like Hael wouldn’t want Bones around after such an announcement. The mare listened quietly to their conversation, not really speaking much but at the same time she didn’t want to seem rude either. She was, after all, trying to get Hael to like her. Bones noticed the little nod Hael gave her after the conversation she had, and though it put Bones off a bit, she was going to be nice. “Mouse has grown quite a bit since I last saw him. I sure it’ll all come in time. And he has the best mother, so he couldn’t be any luckier,” She said easily, hoping her compliments would make Hael not completely hate her. They were the truth too, from what Bones saw she seemed like a wonderful mother that cared for her foal very much. And though Tilney seemed to be gone, at least Mouse would have a great mother to love him. “Friar. I’ve missed talking to you. How have you been?” She asked him, because she didn’t want to bother Hael anymore. If the mare wanted to talk to her than she would, but if she didn’t right now Bones would respect those wishes. While she waited on the large draft stallion to reply, she heard the call of an unknown equine and it made her tense for a moment. The scent of a stallion hit her nostrils, and she got even more nervous as she looked up at Slade. But her mate was completely calm and called out to the horse, and then a handsome stallion walked into the lands. Bones watched the two stallion talk easily, a smile on her face as they spoke. She nodded happily as Slade mentioned her, a smile on her face. “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you Caruso…and thank you for the compliment,” She said with a small little laugh as she looked from the lighter colored stag up to her Slade. It was weird to go from being able to kiss him or pull on his mane or tell her how much she loved him to having to be a bit more professional in front of everyone else.

Hello, my friends...
The lead listened intently as Hael then began to answer his earlier statements. First, the words he had spoke about Mouse growing, but then she also added on to what she had said, you could tell, deep concern for him growing up. /"I worry about his future. How can a colt so small grow up and become a big leader? I'm sure he'd want to be by his self when he leaves, which he probably will. He's so adventurous, but independent already. It's crazy.."/ Hael had mentioned, but Slade just gave her a proud look, first towards Hael and then towards Mouse who was happily occupying himself. She was right, quite adventurous already for his age. "I don't worry about him one bit! He has a great mom standing behind him who can teach him anything he needs to learn and a good support system within this herd. I would be happy to help in anyway that I can as well. A leader doesn't only depend on how tall or strong they look. A leader that has skill and brains is just as good as one that may favor force and strength." Slade had known that bit from experience. He wasn't overly talented in the brains category, but also wasn't hugely talented in the running and endurance category. However, he was strong, tactile and passionate about what he stood for; his herd and his family. Just those qualitys had worked out fine for him thus far. After his reply, he could hear Bones sweet voice follow his, her also mentioning that Mouse being behind growth was not a huge deal, and then even complimenting Hael. A huge relief had come over Slade at that point. He was so worried about both Hael and Bones getting along after all that had happened in the past with the trio. Now Slade only wanted to get along with all of them, of course Bones was his mate now but still being nice and respectful towards Hael and Mouse was Slade's goal too. There was no feelings left for Hael, there couldn't be, but deep inside he hoped Hael would find someone to take care of her, love her, and be her soulmate, like he had found with Bones. Standing there, his gaze kept glancing between the two mares as they spoke. Hael had called for Mouse as he almost disappeared into the bush. Slade laughed softly and replied to her motherly scolding. "Oh my, he does have you on your toes, Hael!" In the back of the leads mind he knew that would be he and Bones soon. He was so excited to be a father, it was finally happening. Though, none of the herd knew yet, heck, Bones didn't even know if the breeding had even taken, but still Slade was letting himself become excited this time. He wasn't yet sure why he let himself get excited when all other times with other mares had failed, but he was. Maybe it was just because he loved Bones just that much and wanted it so badly. While he let his mind get sidetracked he just smiled at Hael and Mouse as he watched them, finally picking up the point that Friar had joined in and Bones had greeted him. Slade was also glad Friar had joined the group, he had missed spending time with the big guy that was oh so quite, but Slade trusted him entirely with anything he needed help with. Friar had helped with Bone's kidnapping, took care of the herd while Slade was away and well, who didn't want a large draft strutting around their herd? Even if Friar had no fighting skill at all, at least his looks would make others think twice about attacking. Or at least Slade had hoped. Switching his opticals to the sight of Friar, he opened his maw to also welcome him. "Long time no talk Friar. I am glad you have joined us! I hope you have been doing well, have you found yourself a lovely lady yet?" He smiled, questioning the stallion.
Afterwards, Slades attention went back on Hael, he could see the reaction she gave towards the mentioning of Tilney. It was bittersweet. Sucked for Hael not having a fatherly figure for mouse to rely on as well, and for Hael to have a mate. However, Slade was not sad that Tilney was gone. Nope, there was still complete distrust and disgust for Tilney remaining in Slades insides. Letting a smirk cross his lips as the stallion replied to her comment on Tilney. "Well, I can't say I'm sad Tilney isn't around. However, I do feel for you Hael, even though you and Tilney were rocky, maybe one day it could have worked out. I am sorry that you will not know, but I am confident that you will find someone that will raise Mouse as their own." And of course just as the lead spoke, Caruso had then entered the herdlands and come over. Go figure, perfect timing. Slade then looked over the group as it had grown quite a bit since the start of this conversation. Friar was standing behind the bunch, joined into the conversation but not pushing his way in, as was his usual demeanor, Bones was beside Slade; looking happy and as beautiful as ever. Hael was in front of them all keeping a close eye on Mouse, and Caruso had pulled himself up to Slades right side, also looking towards Hael and Mouse with the occasional look towards Slade, Bones and Friar.
Caruso had caught his attention for a moment as he brought up a question. /"Excuse me for asking M'am, but do you have a mate to help with your youngster? I don't mean to pry but just mean to offer my assistance if needed."/ Slade couldn't help but laugh at Caruso's words, of course, directed towards Hael. "Hahah oh Caru, you think you could help to raise a foal, is that what I am hearing correctly?" Quickly as a cat, Caruso smiled and sneered back, quick to his next remark towards his old pal Slade. /"Ahh you forget Slade. I kept you out of trouble every chance I got. I was the good one, remember? For that, I do think you owe me as well."/ The Perlino paint sending a wink Slade's way as the lead replied a bit snappy, but not mad, just short with his pal. "Ok, you can stay."
OOC: Ok bare with me guys, I totally screwed up that timing with having Slade reply to Hael before Caru even got there. I really should have switched it and make all of Slades replies fall in time after Caru stepped in, but whatever, guess it is what it is for now, sorry for the horribleness and confusion.
Justa Good Fellow
Ready to start a life
The perlino paint stallion had watched closely the short time he had been in these herdlands, the herdlands happening to belong to his old pal Slade. Good thing, seeing he was hoping to find a safe haven to stay through the winter. Fall was upon the lands now and Caruso had been alone for long enough. He wanted more out of life then birds and trees. Caruso was old enough and ready to have a family. He wanted a reason to be on this earth, a reason to wake up everyday and be happy. Seeing Slade standing so happily next to his mate and surrounded by his friends only made him long for that more.
After his comment about both mares looking beautiful he could see the almost sarcastic remark that Hael put forth, but he didn't let it bother him, shrugging it off he just smiled and stood there. For not being entirely enthused with Caruso's compliment, she sure was studying him closely, looking him up and down as Caruso pretended not to notice. But after the smaller draft type mare stopped looking him over, she called to her foal to show himself and say hello. Cautiously the little guy came to Caruso's front and bowed before returning to the comfort area of his mothers side. Caruso saw it not as impolite, for not speaking of course, but utterly and entirely cute! Not able to help himself he caught the sight of the foals missing ear tip but didn't think a thing wrong about it. In fact, he thought Mouse was as cute as could be, his flashy bright chestnut pelt and stunning white head. His thoughts dragged completely off course for a moment until Hael said that mouse didn't talk much and that it was nice to meet him. Followed by Slades mate Bones, thanking him for his compliment. Kindly, Caruso responded, first to Hael. "Well I hope to not be a stranger for long. I am glad to have found this place, and lucky to find out one of my old close buddies was leading it." Then switching his gaze to Bones, he replied to her. "Ah. I speak the truth, no thanks needed." Towards her mention of thanking him for the compliment he gave. Hoping Hael would also pick up on what he mentioned and maybe leave her smirky remark behind this time. Really, Caru was impressed by her looks and the fact that she had such a gorgeous young colt beside her. Looking awefully young too, for the whole foal deal of course. However, Caruso was not one to judge. He was more of a sit back and watch type, heck he was usually barely even talkitive. Slade used to have to pry to get him to speak sometimes. Especially in front of the girls, Caruso was always the one to hold back and stay away as his tounge always seemed to get tied. Though, now Caruso seemed to be more or less over that. After watching Bri pretty much get raped in front of him, and then working through her issues with her, being there for her and lending his shoulder to lean on, well talking to mares then got much easier on him. It wasn't always supposed to impress them, but sometimes, just comfort them. Glancing to the big draft behind them, Caruso wasn't about to forget that guy either. The sheer size of him was enough to make Caru want to back off and hide in a corner. Right now, he had no one but himself to protect anyway. But in this situation, he wasn't worried. Obviously the stag was part of Slade's herd or he wouldn't be standing there anyway, so if Slade trusted him, so would Caruso. Somewhere, picking up the sound of his name Caruso looked to him and smiled politely before letting his voice sound. "Nice to meet you Friar. It is good to know Slade has some good members standing beside him. About time. How long have you been here?" Crooked smile planted across his face as he then looked to Slade before saying any more. Wow, Bri had really opened up a new side of him, Caruso was really feeling the words tonight, but maybe it was just the excitement of coming across Slade again, really it was a crazy random event entirely.
Switching the weight on his legs as he worked up the courage to speak even more.. This time, to Hael. Looking to the pretty white mare and her young colt, while Caru moved ever so slightly as the suns rays caught his white patches over his perlino pelt for just a moment... "Excuse me for asking M'am, but do you have a mate to help with your youngster? I don't mean to pry but just mean to offer my assistance if needed." He was just curious really, beyond the scents of all the current horses in the small group, Caru couldn't pick up any others, no lingering scent of a father to Mouse, which turned on Caru's curious radar. He had noticed how Mouse seemed to be a bit of a wanderer, looking to explore but leaving Hael to keep a constant eye on him at all times.. Heck Caruso had practically raised a bunch of the other colts in his herd, he was like a big brother to them since he was always out of trouble and trying to lead others, like Slade, in that same pathway. However, the silence after his sentence was broken by Slade's goofy laugh, followed by his words. Quickly, Caruso was snapping a comment right back to the lead. . "Ahh you forget Slade. I kept you out of trouble every chance I got. I was the good one, remember? For that, I do think you owe me as well." and in response, the lead knew he was right. Caruso was probably the best influence most of the younger guys had there. A boring foal Caru was, but he was always the last one in trouble at least.. So of course, following Caruso's last comment, Slade had accepted him into the herd, or well, at least was going to let him stay for a bit, but Caru also saw no chance that Slade would make him leave. Not unless he did something completely vile of course, but heck, this was Caruso... Finally, his words then directed towards Bones, Slades rather flashy brindle mate. "So there Bones. How in the world did you end up saying yes to this scrap of meat?" His voice sarcastic in tone as he let himself laugh a bit under his breath. Yet curious to see what she actually responded with. Right now, life was good. Caruso was in a safe place surrounded by some; so far, great equines, and heck maybe if he could figure out his words and how to impress a mare, well just maybe he could find his own little family too.

Take me to the stars. ------------------- Don't ever let me go. -------------------
/Mouse has grown quite a bit since I last saw him. I sure it’ll all come in time. And he has the best mother, so he couldn’t be any luckier./
Hael took in Bones' compliment with pride. She knew things were awkward between them right now, and she really didn't know how to handle herself well, because she still didn't know what to think about everything. She was glad Slade was happy, that was for sure, but she really didn't know Bones very well. She seemed kind and generous, but she was a stranger still to Hael, and she wasn't sure if that was the way she truly felt or if she still didn't trust others well enough to note the obvious.
"Thanks, Bones."
She replied back with a slight smirk. Soon, she heard Slade's voice again.
/...A leader doesn't only depend on how tall or strong they look. A leader that has skill and brains is just as good as one that may favor force and strength./
She thought about Mouse all grown up and ready to be on his own and couldn't help but feel depressed. She truly loved him, flaws and all, and like any other mother, she never wanted him to leave. She wondered if he would ever be the type to start his own herd and if he could even be a leader with how he was already. She was lost in thought, aimlessly staring at her offspring with wonders controlling her mind, she didn't even notice Slade had left to chat with Friar with a moment until he was back chatting with Hael again about Tilney and the fact that Mouse didn't have a father. Hael wasn't sure if Mouse would ever have a father again. She wasn't sure if she could put herself forward enough again to fall in love. After everything she had been through, she truly wasn't innocent and naive anymore. Even with how young she was, she felt old, especially with Mouse by her side. Everything had happened so fast that she had lost herself. She didn't really think about herself anymore; she thought of Mouse. As Slade brought it up, she again wondered if she would be able to even open up to anyone ever again. Slade knew everything, and she was glad that he did, because then it couldn't haunt her own mind forever. It was that little connection that still made her love him. That connection that brought out the jealousy to Bones, and she didn't know how to handle it yet. She honestly thought she couldn't get over Slade, ever, and that frightened her immensely. As she was about to reply, an unfamiliar whinny came. ------------ "Well I hope to not be a stranger for long. I am glad to have found this place, and lucky to find out one of my old close buddies was leading it./ Caruso's voice was soothing to Hael, and she wasn't sure if it was his actual voice itself, or if she was just ecstatic to hear a new voice around here. Her mind wandered about what he said and what his meaning of stranger meant.
"Is he flirting with me?
What does he mean?
Does he want to be friends?
I don't even know him, why am I thinking like this?
He couldn't be flirting with me...
I have a foal for christ's sake. Without a father..
I'm a nutcase."
Thoughts flew around her brain as she tried to decipher his words while trying to keep her facial expressions hidden and pleasant. She shook it off quickly, realizing how stupid she was being for thinking anyone would want her and Mouse. She wondered about when and where they met, and how Caruso ended up here. He was alone, so he obviously didn't have a herd to lead. She was also surprised at the good vibes between the two, wondering if they grew up together or something.
/Excuse me for asking M'am, but do you have a mate to help with your youngster? I don't mean to pry but just mean to offer my assistance if needed./
Her eyes widened with shock at Caruso's words and his openness right off the get-go. Her eyes flitted down in embarrassment, knowing it really wasn't flattering to have a foal without a mate.
"No, I don't. I've been coping pretty well by myself, thanks."
Her words came out angry and rushed and that, of course, was directed at Tilney and his disappearance. She didn't mean for her words to come out snappy, but they did, and she regretted it immediately. She tried to play it off with a forced genuine smile, but knew that she had failed. She was a mess. A mess in front of a handsome stranger. An awkward, nervous, and incredibly loud laugh escaped after Slade and Caruso's joking bickering. She looked down at the grass and decided it was best if she kept her mouth shut, so in turn, she filled it with grass to keep herself busy. She eyed Mouse, who was slowly making his way into the forest again, and rolled her eyes in annoyance.
