Steal my Heart and carry it away It was surely getting colder outside, the wind whipped through the almost entirely bare trees as the stag shook his diluted pelt off. He began to start looking a bit fluffy, getting acclimated towards the cooler weather, naturally. Though he always hated these times, made him look silly and almost fat. Just because he was a bit bigger boned and almost half drafty built he already looked like an ox, to add winter hair was just insult to injury at that point. As he walked his forelock draped across his icey blue eyes and his long mane lapped under his neck with the sway of his bodice. Caruso was a loner and almost determined to always be a loner. In his heart he worried for the day that it could change, that a mare would nab at his heart strings and pull him into a herd but he dreaded it so much he almost made it his mission not to let it happen. Typical studs would be all over a conversation with a mare, but not him. Though he prefered them to stallions passing by anyday, he just wasn't much of a talker. Spending so much time alone and with the trauma left in his mind from when he was only months old, it just stuck with him like a grey cloud hovering everyday. Now that he was a ripe six years old he felt almost foolish for some of his actions but he knew all too well that he wasn't about to let anyone break he loner soul. Though, with those strong feelings of his, he sometimes wondered how it would be to at least have a companion to travel with. Not per say a herd, but just someone to keep him company. Deep down he knew he was too reserved of a stallion, that he really needed to branch out and make friends instead of pushing everyone away, but between his past and his travels there was one thing he did learn... Don't trust a soul.
There were envious out there with pearly whites just coated in blood as it dripped from their maws, he had saw it, witnessed it, and did not want to be apart of it. Even with the distaste for his half brother and his father within him he could never think of killing for the pure fun of it. Heartless beasts.
The wind whipped though the small valley that he had just stepped into. It unexpectly sent a shiver over his spine as he continued on at a nice brisk pace. Because of the lack of direction the wind had today it made it hard to track other equines. Scents from every animal in the forest were getting sent across his nares and he couldn't make much sense of any of it. He'd only just hope that no envious were around and that he could continue on his way, not bothered. As he stepped back into the tree line he thought he caught a scent so the brute stopped in his tracks and tipped his nose back into the air to take another smell. Unable to grip anything he sighed and dipped his head down to the earth to grab a quick bite to eat. Right now, he was at peace. Words:543 Tagged: Bri Notes: ehh.

If you couldn't be loved the next best thing was to be let alone. The brindle mare travelled quickly, fleeting in between the trees as she tried to find a new place to explore. Everywhere around her there was just more trees, dead and ugly trees. She had to admit that winter was her least favorite season. It was cold, it snowed, and she grew a huge coat that made her look fat. Just nothing appealing at all about the dreary weather. She loved summer, when it was warm and everything was alive and vibrant.
Her brown eyes searched the area for something that would catch her attention, a frozen waterfall or a friend to make or a new cave to look into. There was nothing though, and that upset her. The woods were quiet, it seemed like nothing but herself was actually moving. ”If I could only find someone…” She mumbled to herself, just to keep herself sane. She often talked to herself, especially when she had gone a long time without the company of another equine.
Brigid had to admit that sometimes being alone took its toll on her. She was a very social being, and she loved when she ran into others that she could talk too. As long as they were not stallions that could trick her into joining a herd or force her into a foal she did not want. She never stuck around long, just enough to have a nice conversation and quench that need for social interaction. One day she was sure she would find someone to travel with, someone who loved exploring as much as she did, but she had yet to find such a creature out there.
The sound of running water entered her ear drums, spiking her interest and diverting her course. She walked over, pausing at the bank and dipping her head down to take a drink. After her throat was no longer dry, she lifted her head up and took in a deep breathe. Her nostrils flared, was that the smell of…another equine? An unfamiliar one, but it did smell like a horse. She travelled towards the smell though, interested in whom it might be and if she could make another friend.
The mare stopped behind a clump of trees when she spotted him. Yes, a stag. Which made her nervous, she was always cautious of them because of all the terrible stories that she had heard. The evil they could do. And then she didn’t even know if he sided with the pure, or if he came from the dreaded envious that were even worse than normal stallions.
He was light colored, and his wholly fur gave him a much less intimidating look. She thought about walking away before he even spotted her, but she had not had a real conversation for so long. She was even to the point she had to talk to herself so she would not go crazy. It would not hurt to go talk to him, and if he proved to be bad she would just run.
Bri slipped out from behind the trees, slowly making her way towards the stocky stallion. ”Hello…It’s been so long since I’ve seen another horse around here. It’s so nice to see you, I thought I was all alone. Who are you?” She asked, her lack of conversation lately and her excitement making her ramble on as she watched the stallion. ”Oh, where are my manners? My name is Brigid, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” She added quickly, feeling rude for not introducing herself before she jumped him. Her voice was excited and friendly, her body language representing that of a friend instead of one to intimidate. She wondered if he was from around here, or if he was just wandering around like she had been for so long. words: 630 tagged: Caruso notes: I hope that was okay...lol.

Steal my Heart and carry it away Caruso was happily munching on the grass below him, stuff his face like a cow who had been deprived of any grazing. He felt like such a manner-less pig but in reality he was just loving the taste of that certain patch of grass he had found. Somehow it still had rich almost summer like taste to it and he just wanted to devour it all. As he chowed down his senses were dulled, almost oblivious to the rest of the world while he enjoyed the alone time he always seemed to have. That was, until he heard a voice only right next to him. Caru practically jumped out of his skin as he lept to the side and away from the mysterious voice. He caught a hold of his breathing after the shock of another equine and looked at her with his bright blue eyes rather while a confused gaze shined across his face. He tried to recapture the words she spoke while scaring him half to death, but couldn't really remember much. However, he was still quiet thrown off guard and his jaw seemed locked tight unable to even respond. Finally he seemed to comprehend, /Where are my manners, my name is Brigid/
Caru then did all he could to look not so confused. The mare had popped out of seemingly thin air and now he was accompanied by her. She seemed bubbly and talkative, great, something he was not. This was already starting off on a great hoof. He tried to pull a half smile across his face but failed and looked almost miserable instead, on accident of course. So just then Caruso decided it would probably be best if he choked up his pride and just spat out an answer to the mare. Short and sweet, just as he liked it.
"I'm Caruso." he answered back with a kind and charming voice. Many things then seemed to flash across his mind as he looked over the mare with his blue optics. /I wonder, if shes some scout for a herd. Or maybe really a loner like I? Will she follow me everywhere and annoy me? oh god. why me. I was fine just minding my own and eating this luscious grass./ Unknowingly Caru released a small sigh out of his maw while his eyes still searched his pelt. A sigh that probably could have easily been mistaken as a compliment to the mare, something like /Ahh. Shes a looker/ However, that's not actually how he ment it to come out. Caruso regained stable mentality as he stood before the mare and processed what he was seeing. Her coat was rather oddly colored, much like his also unique colors. She was a red base, with some rather stunning roaning, but also brindle coloring throughout her pelt. He was almost mesmerized and awe struck that a mare could be made up of so many colors and markings, yet have a strikingly nice look to them. However, the task at hand was to remain a bachelor stallion and to roam the world, alone. For now, he was stuck in his ways. Caruso waited for the mares reply to his short statement but couldn't keep still. With a flick of his tail he walked off a few small steps and reached his head up into a tree to snack on a few yellow leaves that somehow managed to not fall yet. In no way did he see this mare as any threat to him, at all.

If you couldn't be loved the next best thing was to be let alone. Brigid tensed up as the stallion jumped, not expecting his quick and fearful movements. She had not meant to scare him, she had approached him slowly and everything. At least she thought she had. Maybe in her excitement in seeing another she had done everything wrong, jumping the gun and coming out too quickly. Great, she had already messed up in her introduction. Now she didn’t just look stupid for rambling, she also seemed rude and too curious. This stallion had to think she was an idiot.
The brindle mare expected him to say something else, but his name was it. Just his name, what kind of introduction was that? She frowned just a bit, he must not be talkative. Which also meant her presence was probably unwelcome. Bri thought about leaving, but she hadn’t spoken to another in so long that she just couldn’t force herself to leave. This stag just had to get over it and speak to her. She wasn’t past bothering him until they had a good conversation, so he might as well just get over it now and start speaking.
“Well it is nice to meet Caruso. Have you been around these parts a long time?” Her curious voice questioned him, though so many more questions were nagging at her. She always wanted to learn more, and sometimes she needed to remind herself to slow down so others did not get irritated with her. As he walked away from her Bri was sure he was leaving, but then he ended up just eating some of the few reaming leaves there was on a nearby tree. She did not move though, not wanting to seem like she was hovering or anything.
As the mare watched him more, she realized how handsome he really was. His coloring and his markings, they were so different and eye catching. His large size, under that thick fur, gave him a strong and brave look. One who could easily protect himself and what was his. She was really captivated by his looks though, you could not forget a stallion that looked like that. At least she could not.
She quickly stopped her wandering thoughts right there, she was headed down a very dangerous path with such poisonous thoughts. Why had she let herself think such vial things? She could only speak for a little before she had to leave, and she could not let herself form any sort of bond with him. No matter how handsome or unforgettable he was. She was an explorer, so she could not let any part of her mind think of a stallion in such a way. That was how one got hurt, ended up with a foal, or got trapped in a structured herd that would make her hate the rest of her life. words: 469 tagged: Caruso notes: Ugh. I'm sorry it was so terrible.

Steal my Heart and carry it away Caruso was still munching happily on his leaves as the mare spoke, he already got a bit scatterbrained and had forgotten her name, but was sure to remember it soon. She was very pretty at that, her Champange paint coat would mix lovely with his Perlino one, but he pushed those thoughts aside. He wanted a family so badly, but could never seem to push himself away from the lone lifestyle he knew. For him it was his safety net, the only way he had ever spent his life, alone and traveling. Of course, with company now and then, and at this moment, it was the champagne paint mare standing behind him starting up her mouth again. He didn't mind too much though, but he was more of a listener then a talker himself. He analyzed her question and turned his head to face hers as he answered back in a deep and friendly tone. "Nice to meet you as well err..." Yep, brain fart acknowledged. Rather inconvenient spot too.. AH! he got it, and regained his sentence. "Brigid. Not too long, just passing though mostly." Again, his words were short and to the point, but figured he would humor her talking nature and add but a few more words. "So, how about you? No stag to be following you?" Suggesting that maybe she had a lover, you know, most mares desired them these days, and most stags just literally 'jumped' on the opportunity of having a mare to themselves. Just not Caru of course. He hadn't smelled any other scents lingering on the mares pelt, but was curious anyway, with a looker like her he was sure maybe she had some other sort of problem. Neutral blood maybe? Multi personality? Err, Annoying? He probably could handle all of the above, except annoying. It was one thing to talk about interesting things that Caruso could stand to hear all day long, but it was another to blab on about how the sky is blue and the grass was dying. Those were the moments where he wished he could just disappear. Oh thats right, he could! Untied from any herds he could just make that decision to leave in an instant, and he loved it oh so much.
Though, Bri didn't seem quite annoying, just bored, looking for a good chat and maybe lonely. Caru for now didn't mind the company, but was doing a horrible job at keeping the conversation going. He sighed lightly and walked a few paces back to the mare whom was behind him. His large frame swaying as his legs moved beneath him. He was stockier then other stallions, and knew how to fight, but was just naturally.. quiet. Today, he was trying to make exceptions as he opened his maw one last time. "So, tell me about yourself Bri." Ah, the perfect trap to let his listening devices go to work as he listened to the mares sweet voice dance into his ears.

If you couldn't be loved the next best thing was to be let alone. Brigid kept her distance and carefully watched the stallion, just studying his movements and body language. He did not seem annoyed with her, just a bit distant. He seemed like the silent type that would happily listen, and one who thought about what other’s said more than just careless banter. There were very few equines like that, but when she ran into one she usually had a very good conversation from it. And she would stick around and make him talk if she could get a good conversation.
The mare’s lips upturned as her forgot her name, maybe he was a bit too preoccupied as he thought. Not that she was offended, they had just met after all. She listened to what he said, relaxing as he said he was just passing through. Good, he was not from any herd. Which hopefully meant that there were no herds nearby and no tricky stallions out searching for weak mares. His next words made her ears flick back for a moment, and she shook her head. “No, no. I’m a loner, I just love to explore and travel,” She said simply as she watched him.
Bri did not know why, but for some reason the question bothered her. Why did he have to assume that she was traveling with a stallion? Could a mare not travel alone and stay that way? She was just an explorer who did not have time to settle down with another and do all that. And the memories of her herd put a bad taste in her mouth about others and herds, and she just did not know if she wanted to risk such a thing. Being alone had its cons, but it was better than being tethered to some stallion who cared about nothing but foals and stuck in a structured and strict herd. She would never take that risk.
Her opinions and memories consumed most of her thoughts when his words hit her ear drums, forcing her out of her own little world to focus on him once more. “Umm…I’ve been travelling for about two years, I love exploring new places and finding interesting things. I left my parent’s herd and never looked back...right now I’m just enjoying life and seeing all the great things this world has to offer. I’m pretty simple I guess,” She admitted with a small laugh, not really sure what to say to him. She figured if she said a little and was interested in anything, he would ask questions. words: 420 tagged: Caruso notes:hehe. Naughty Caru, thinking about babies already. haha

Steal my Heart and carry it away Caruso listened happily as Bri spoke. He was quite content listening to her speak yet sort of wanted to keep moving in his travels, though he wouldn't be offended or annoyed if Bri followed him. His footsteps moved slowly across the ground after she finished speaking, he had heard everything she had to say and merely turned around to her nodding his head and speaking softly. "Well then Bri, since you have no stag upon your trail and you too are a traveler, would you like to join me for a stroll?" He half smiled pleasantly as he moved on across the forest. His long mane and tail waving with him as his large frame moved beneath them. He wasn't really in the search for a mate considering he never really could bring himself to settle down, but he could possibly be in the search for a short time traveling companion to keep him company during these short miserable winter days. However, not being much of a talker, and he answering all his questions it kind of left him back to being the one talking. I guess this mare just really wants me to speak up! he though to himself as he kept motion. So talk is what he did, he tried to ask more interesting questions in hopes she would just continue speaking as Caruso could just listen to her sweet voice while they walked. It almost soothed him now to have company instead of just the voice in his head. With a comforting smile, he spoke. "Hm. I suppose its my turn then. Well, I'm of six summers old. I too enjoy traveling. I was born outside of my herd, but have never grown fond of them for many more reasons. For such, I haven't ever settled down. So I'm glad to meet another like myself." He turned to face her with a smile twinkle in his eye and goofy smile on his maw before he picked up with more words during the short pause. "So tell me Bri, anything you want. I'm more of a listener then anything, truthfully, I enjoy it. So don't fear talking to me, I'll be listening." Another short pause as Caruso tried to pick something up in his brain to talk about, but really he hoped she would come across something. However, suddenly a whiff of mare and stallion came across his nares. Though, it wasn't the scent of him and Bri, but two others. One traveler with him was enough, 4 was far too many. He grew a bit uncomfortable but his stallion instincts kicked in as he swished his tail and stood in front of Bri. His eyes narrowed as he tried to pick up any sight of the equines, but couldn't. He would have to move closer. Caruso was more of just a gentlemen then anything, he was quiet and polite and thought mares should be taken care of and spoken to with the utmost respect. There he stood in front of Bri as he whispered quietly though his lips. "We have company." Bri being a loner herself, he hoped she had enough common sense to stay put. You never knew what Envious were out there lurking.

If you couldn't be loved the next best thing was to be let alone. Brigid listen to him as he started to speak, a smile on her lips a his offer. She liked to hear his deep voice, it was calming and it soothed her. She did not know if it was actually his voice, or if it was the fact that she had been away from others for so long. So when the perlino stallion offered her the chance to take a walk with him, she quickly nodded her head and walked after him. She figured he would just make an excuse and leave, like others had before, but it was a happy surprise.
The golden mare was happy that at a time like now, she was able to find someone. In the winter the days were always extremely cold and dreary, and though she loved the snow the lack of other’s and everything dead was depressing. They also seemed lonelier because many equines seemed to hole themselves up from the cold weather, unlike herself since she was always travelling and moving forward. Her first year out by herself it had really hit her hard, but now she was getting accustomed to it. But to be with a friendly stallion for some of it would make it better.
Other lone mares would be jumping on this opportunity for completely different reasons, trying to find a mate and have a foal and all that nonsense. But Brigid was not looking for such a thing, and probably never would be looking for such a thing. Maybe if the right stallion came along and she felt like they were in the right place or could find the right place. Right now she was just content where she was and what she was doing and didn’t want to be tied down with such things.
“I myself do not like herds. I was born into one, to the leads of the herd, but I just didn’t like the structure or anything. I always wondered what was outside of those herd lands, so I left one day and never looked back. It was the best decision I’ve ever made, it’s never boring when you are traveling,” She said quietly, not adding much more to her past. There was more, but she usually did not tell other’s that. Especially this soon in meeting someone.
Bri was busy talking and walking when she picked up another scent, or actually two scents. Her nostrils flared and ears perked up, but she didn’t have to worry about because Caruso was already in front of her. It was a surprise, probably because they had just met and she did not think he would do that. But if there was envious out there, especially a stallion, she was happy to have him here. The only thing worse than having a foal, was an unwanted foal with no father around. words: 474 tagged: Caru/Envious notes:
